Why server-side tracking

If you spend on ads, everything comes back to one question: did that spend turn into sales? The honest answer depends entirely on how your conversions are measured — and the old way, the browser pixel, has been quietly getting less accurate for years. Server-side tracking is CIQRA’s answer, and it’s what makes the numbers your ad platforms see line up with what actually happened.

A shopper buys, CIQRA's server records the conversion, checks consent, and forwards it to your ad platforms — reliably, without a fragile browser pixel.

A traditional pixel is a small piece of JavaScript that runs in the shopper’s browser. When someone buys, the pixel is supposed to fire and tell Meta, Google or TikTok that a conversion happened. In practice, a large share of those pixels never fire:

  • Ad blockers and privacy extensions stop tracking scripts from loading at all.
  • Browser privacy features — Safari’s Intelligent Tracking Prevention (ITP), Firefox’s protections and similar defaults — shorten or delete the cookies pixels rely on.
  • iOS and app privacy prompts limit what can be tracked once a shopper opts out.
  • Slow connections and early tab closes mean the script simply never runs.

Every one of those gaps is a real sale your ad platform never learns about. The platform then optimises against incomplete data — under-reporting your best campaigns and steering budget away from what’s actually working.

Server-side — often shortened to S2S (server-to-server) — moves the reporting off the shopper’s browser and onto CIQRA’s server. When an order is placed, CIQRA sends the conversion event directly from our backend to each ad platform’s server-side API.

Because the event originates from a server — not a browser a plugin can block or a shopper can accidentally close:

  • Ad blockers can’t stop it. There’s no browser script to block.
  • Cookie and ITP limits don’t erase it. The event doesn’t depend on a browser cookie.
  • It fires reliably, even if the shopper closed the tab the instant they paid.

The result is measurement that’s both more complete (fewer missed conversions) and more accurate (sent once, from a trusted source, with the details the platform needs to match it to a click).

Ad platforms use the conversions you report to train their optimisation. Feed them a fuller, cleaner signal and they get better at finding people like your real buyers. Better measurement isn’t just tidier reporting — it directly improves how efficiently your budget is spent.

That’s why server-side tracking sits at the centre of CIQRA’s marketing tools. Set it up once, and every supported platform starts receiving conversions the reliable way.
