My inventory numbers look wrong

Inventory that “doesn’t add up” is usually a matter of reading the right number in the right place. CIQRA tracks three distinct counts, and stock lives per location — so the same product can show different figures depending on what you’re looking at.

Things to check

• Are you comparing on hand with available? These are different numbers. On hand is the physical units you hold; available is what’s sellable — on hand minus reserved. If available is lower than on hand, that’s the reserved units at work, not a mistake. See Track inventory.
• Are units reserved against unfulfilled orders? Reserved units are committed to orders that haven’t been fulfilled yet. Open-but-unfulfilled orders will pull your available count down — check whether outstanding orders explain the gap (see order issues).
• Are you looking at the right location? Inventory is tracked per location, so a single-warehouse view won’t show your full picture. Switch to the matrix or total view, or confirm you’ve selected the right location — see Locations and warehouses.

Tip

The quick mental model: available = on hand − reserved. Most “wrong number” reports are really available and on hand being read as if they should match — they usually shouldn’t.
